We would like to welcome you to Seacole class. Our class teachers are Mrs Grier (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) and Mrs Lowdon (Thursday and Friday). Our Learning Support Assistants are Mrs Reid and Mrs Edwards. 

We hope you all had a wonderful summer break and you are ready for the new academic year! 

During the autumn term, we focus on transition and take a continuous provision approach to learning. This means that the children have an input on the carpet as a class and then they will be working in small groups with a teacher or exploring resources to enhance play and learning skills.

We have a fun packed curriculum for the autumn term. We will start with a History unit called Toys, then and now. We will be exploring lots of toys from different eras and making special timelines. In Geography, we will be learning all about where will live, by exploring our local area.

Please ensure Zippy wallets and reading practice books are brought to school every day.

Monday – Spelling test and book changing day (reading practice book and reading for pleasure book)

Wednesday – PE day (All children come into school in their PE kits)

Wednesday – Homework set (reading and spellings)

Here is a typical day in Seacole class. Please note that continuous provision is embedded throughout the day.

We follow Lighting the Path in Religious Education.The children learn two hours of RE per week in KS1 and are involved in Liturgical prayer.

Things that help us learn

We have established the use of Google Classroom as our online learning platform in Key Stage 1. We also use a My Maths, which will be used as weekly homework. We follow Little Wandle as our phonics programme. A reading book (Big Cat for Little Wandle) is sent home on a weekly basis which will be pitched at your child’s current phonic ability and at a level they can decode and comprehend at a 95% accuracy. They will also take home a reading for pleasure book, which they will select from the school library. Weekly spellings are sent home to consolidate the phonetic sounds the children have been learning that week.

Trips

This year we will be organising many exciting school-based enhancement activities. Our first trip of the year will be to the Milestones museum. We welcome parent helpers!
